WCOF Member, Joann De Matteo publishes novel and hits the road for book signings Print E-mail
cranberry_lake_book_photoFor Woman's Club of Fullerton member, JoAnn De Matteo, the last few months have been busy ones.  Joann released her novel, Cranberry Lake to thunderous applause!  On February 6, 2008, De Matteo had a 45 minute radio interview with Art Lewis on WSGW, Saginaw, MI.  Joann states, "It was great fun and my mother is at home listening to the tape.  She's my number one fan."  On Sunday, April 13, 2008 she will be the guest speaker for the Spring Session of Delta Betha Chi.

Cranberry Lake was featured in "The Public i" of the Dec. 2007 issue of Tri City Magazine.  To see that review, go to www.tricitymag.com.  She did a 30 minute presentation on 11-16-07 for the YWCA Booked For Lunch in Bay City, MI.  On June 14, 2007, Bay City Times Weekend Scene did a full-page write-up, "New Book Cranberry Lake Has Ties To Bay City", which precluded her first book signing at The State Theater in downtown Bay City.

The Fullerton Observer did an article on Aug. 2007, Pg. 9, "Cranberry Lake" A Fun Summer Read, and in the Profile section of the Placentia News Times, Aug. 9, 2007, "Letters Hidden In a Desk Inspire Novel".

This is a brief concept on Cranberry Lake.  Its hard cover, 424 pages, includes historical pictures and copies of the original letters. Twenty-one letters written in 1930 were secreted away in a hidden panel of an old desk and discovered in 1979.  Its historical fiction based on real events - a mystery and a love story set in the mid-west Depression-era.

The novel takes the reader on two journeys.  One is the tale of a troubled couple caught up in the discouraging effects of the Depression.  The second is the account of the author/narrator's growing awareness of her newfound talent for discovery.  Both tales are engaging and thought provoking.

Reports from those who have read Cranberry Lake found themselves thinking and caring about the characters long after reading the last page, immersing themselves in the saga and wondering where the truth stopped and the fiction began.

In addition to being a published author, JoAnn is a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer in Fullerton (6-7 years) and a Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) volunteer in Orange County.
