Mary Peardon, whom it seems had served as the Woman's Club of Fullerton president forever, was down to five members when it was decided to end 105 years of service to the community.
Peardon said recruitment efforts for younger members provided fruitless.
Just when it appeared as if the last birthday candle would be extinguished, a bright light appeared – Emily Yost, a sales and marketing specialist who wasn't about to see an organization full of pride and history dissolve.
Last month, Yost and 10 younger new members sat around a table at the YWCA office planning the "Tribute to 105 Years of Service" luncheon and auction for Nov. 17 at the Wyndham Hotel. And they decided as part of the Woman's Club resurrection, there would be new charities to support: Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Services and scholarships for women in the North Orange county area who desperately want to change their lives and those of their children.
Peardon's blue eyes glistened at the new plans.
With a big dose of new energy, Yost also announced two upcoming self-empowerment workshops targeting younger women.
"Helping Women Make Positive Life Changes" will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 20 and "Business: Marketing and Promotion" from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 3. Both workshops will be held at the Fullerton Joint Union High School District office, 1051 W. Bastanchury Road.
There is limited space. Information: 714-459-8277.
